This Week’s Posts
Tuesday: Wrote about myself and James Joyce and Cormac McCarthy and my journey to discover them, how they shaped me, and other delightful morsels.
Wednesday: Paying subscribers received Chapter Sixteen of Emrys the Fool and free subscribers received Chapter Fourteen. If you received neither, there are instructions here on how to get these in your email.
Thursday: My essay about Speaker for the Dead was published at
. A great publication for booklovers if you want to read about beloved books by those who loved them!Episode Six of the Dadpod Gamescast also came out! We discussed Street Fighter II and I know you spent your childhood playing this game so come reminisce with us.
Friday: Not posted at this here substack, but my children’s storytime podcast continues with Chapter Eight of A Pirate’s Life. This is the story I’ve been telling my son for a few months and began recording for him on his Yoto Player. With that in mind, this is a story meant for children and so share it with a child.
A young boy named Carrot who wants to become a pirate. Chapter Eight involves harvesting a giant sea monster.
Music by my good friend Bart Larsen.
From the Archives
My first essay over at Broken River was about how to get shit done. I’m no expert, but I sure do write a lot!
Listening
Reading
Read Terminal Boredom by Izumi Suzuki, which is weird and wild and uncomfortable. Fascinating visions of terrifying futures.
Also reading this massive oral history of Street Fighter II.
Watching
Columbo sure is a great show.
I love videogame history, which surprises probably no one, but these are especially great.
What Else?
Iron Wolf is still newly out and could use its first review!
Also, I know I shared the cover to Horus and Motherfucker a few weeks ago, but I’m going to try something special with that one instead. More news on that in the near future, but paying subscribers will be receiving the ebook this upcoming week.
Gonna keep recommending The Dadpod Gamescast! The next episode is about Megaman, and who doesn’t love the blue bomber? Expect that in two weeks.
I hope you give us a listen. Like and subscribe and review and all that. You can subscribe here at substack or at wherever you like to listen to podcasts, like Spotify and Apple.
Spent the week/end playing a bunch of boardgames so I’ve been mostly offline, but I’ll have some things to say about some of the games I played this weekend. Most of them deserve another playthrough or two before I really make comment, but I think I’ll be talking about Dune Imperium, which will also give me an excuse to write about Dune more broadly.
That’s it from me.
Anyway, read my books that are currently out. Then review them.
Thank you.
