I really want to read Fire and Blood now. Also, I would love to read your take on the Last Jedi. My favorite SW movie of all time. Super underrated. I have a lot to say about it myself.

Fire and Blood is good!

I ended up not doing my Star Wars series this year. I think I might wait until my son is old enough to watch most of them, which should be in a few years.

Ah, oh well. In any case, would be cool to read your take whenever it arrives.

Part of the motivation for a reread is to then jump into the Karsa trilogy he's working on.

I would love to see a write up on Steven Erickson, but you’re right, not sure if we could even get to the “literally dozens of us” level of interest on that.

I am darkly curious of why you think “Last Jedi” is anything worth watching. It passed right through me, I vaguely remember something with a broken piece of the Death Star, and the worst space battle of all times.

I’m sure you could pull it off though, I really enjoyed your Fire & Blood write ups, you saw all sorts of things that I didn’t, and I was persuaded to stick with it past the first 2 dry episodes, and ended up really enjoying it.

I know this is a rather niche Substack, but I have enjoyed it. I went through some really dark times these last few months (my mother was hospitalized and then passed away), the series and this Substack were a welcome distraction. All the best to you!

Sorry to hear about your mother. I'm glad my words here offered some kind of help.

Man, it would be so fun to write about Steven Erikson! Those books feel like they're meant to be dug into at a deep level.

As for The Last Jedi - a big part of this is that I have no affection for Star Wars and liked how it deconstructed the mythos of the larger series.

Thanks for your kind words.

I definitely agree with the desire for a deep dive on Erickson. It feels like there is a lot going on there, and he genuinely has some fresh ideas on fantasy. I reread the first two books this summer, and his breadth is incredible. He has so many ideas and cultures to cram into each book, and it’s all very fresh and original. Gotta give it up to Dukier, the only ass-kicking historian in fiction (yes I’m a history major)

I can see that perspective on Last Jedi, it’s a similar one to Matt Christman’s - just grinning through it all because it is such a big Fuck You to the fan base
