Wonderful idea! I’m looking forward to the discussions (and my husband--whose tastes are more highbrow than mine--will for once be eager to watch the movies I suggest).

The way you describe Rimbaud's poetry and its effects on you is similar to how Mishima Yukio's work made me feel when I discovered it at 16.
And, I must admit that I'm not much of a cinephile, and have never seen a single one of Wong Kar Wai's films. I should endeavour to do so. At least some of them.
The power of experiencing a specific work of art, or body of work, at the right age really is just life changing. It's possible that I'd be a different person now had I never watched that dumb Leonardo DiCaprio movie!
And, yeah, Wong Kar Wai is great! His movies improved as he got older, but one of my favorites, Ashes of Time, was an infamous disaster in Chinese cinema history. When I watched it, I wasn't aware of its connections to Jin Yong's novels, so I imagine this reimagining is also why it was poorly received in China.

They're pretty good!
