This is the last day to take advantage of my Pay What You Want subscription offer. So if you want free ebooks, early access to Emrys the Fool, and monthly subscriber only posts, take a good look!
Monday: My mini-review of Wong Kar Wai’s Happy Together went up at Asian Cha.
Tuesday: My enormous essay on Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows was released to paying subscribers, though there’s a good chunk available to everyone. I’m very happy with this one and hope you check it out.
Wednesday: Paying subscribers received Chapter Twenty One of Emrys the Fool and free subscribers received Chapter Nineteen. If you received neither, there are instructions here on how to get these in your email.
Thursday: I interviewed Frederick Woodruff.
From the Archives
Thinking about writing more things like this. Just highly focused on a single thing rather than focus on a body of work or even an entire piece of media.
This look at Michael Jackson’s voice is one of my favorite music essays I’ve done.
Listening
Reading
Fascinating and long read on plastic eating microbes from the Guardian.
Really loved this post from
. Touches on things I feel like I’m always talking about.Reading Marc Morris’ history of the Anglo Saxons. All this Old English research will be useful when I write my King Arthur book.
Watching
Survivor premiered this week!
I keep meaning to write about Survivor but the fear is that I simply have too much to say about this and most people probably aren’t super interested. But this show is bonkers.
I love it.
The cast for this new season is not filling me with hope though. Some interesting characters but a whole lot of dumb. But it’s only been one episode. Still plenty of time to watch this progress. I mean, my favorite person from last season was someone I thought was going to be a disaster.
What Else?
is running a workshop next month! If you’re a writer—whether beginner or not—this is a great opportunity to work with one of the best.
As a reminder, I’m offering a Pay what you want or Pay what you can subscription discount! This deal is only available until the end of the month.
Iron Wolf and Sleeping Giants are still newly out and could use reviews!
Last week, the Dadpod Gamescast released its eighth episode! It’s about Beatemups and Kyle Muntz is a guest, so you know it’s good.
I hope you give us a listen. Like and subscribe and review and all that. You can subscribe here at substack or at wherever you like to listen to podcasts, like Spotify and Apple.
You can still sample the RPG ruleset I made a few weeks ago:
Gonna make a One-shot for it soonishgly. Possibly this week.
Also, because I guess I’m not doing enough random projects, I’m also working on designing a deckbuilder game inspired by Pokemon. It was originally going to be more like a the Pokemon card game (I made rules for this already!) but playing Arctic Scavengers last weekend gave me a better idea that I’m working on now.
And just because I’m a real dummy, I may adapt it into a different kind of game using literary history.
My real life job will dominated most of my week as I needed to fly to and from Cleveland to justify my job. Was able to mostly finish the novel I began last week, so at least that’s something.
It’s my birthday, which makes me old. Gonna spend the day doing cool stuff with cool people. I suggest you do the same.
That’s it from me.
Anyway, read my books that are currently out. Then review them.
Thank you.
Read the first three chapter of Sleeping Giants.
