I loved this, Edward. Thanks for sharing it with me. A Game of Thrones was one of the first books I truly loved. I never watched much of the show, but I read the first four books during one blissful summer when I was fifteen. I didn’t get around to reading the fifth, figuring I’ll finish the series when volumes six and seven come out (seemingly never), but still I have beautiful memories of that summer.

You should read it again! The series will probably never be finished but it's still very good

Will we ever really know for sure that you are wrong about Littlefinger, though? The show can’t be a definitive stand in for the book conclusion, even though we assume that it followed GRRM’s general planned plot trajectory, we don’t KNOW. Until he writes the actual last novels (if he ever does) I don’t think we can say for sure. Petyr is still alive in book world, right?

He is!

I think Martin has confirmed that the ending of the show is generally the same as the ending of the books, so we'll likely see Bran as king. But, man, we're gonna need a better path to get to that point!

But I still stand by Petyr being king!

I finished the first book earlier this year so I'm going to need to be a few years behind on this series. But I thought this was an excellent analysis. I don't read fiction or fantasy but I thought this book was excellent. Even knowing the story from the show it hums along and is beautifully written.

Yeah, coming back to it, it really is evident how good Martin is. From the writing to the plotting, he stands above most other epic fantasy writers.

I only read the first two books and really enjoyed them. I think I'll pick them back up now you're diving into them... Thanks for the reintroduction!

These books are good! The third one is most people's favorite, though everyone except me seems to hate the fourth and fifth ones.
