I love this article. I think about this all the time with my kids - even the ones that are super enthusiastic about "my" games. I make an intentional effort to get games for THEM and I try to encourage as much "unstructured" time with the games as they want to have.
Yeah, this is something we've begun doing as well. Our son is still quite young so he's mostly playing HABA games (which are great!). Often, he plays them his own way. And we could correct him and make sure he's playing correctly, but who cares? He's having fun!
