How’s everyone been? How is this little blog working for you?

I enjoy it, but, I mean, I’m the one filling it with words. And I have endless buckets of words to paint screens with.

I’m curious about how you’re all finding this. Honestly, as endless as my well of words and opinions may be, I wouldn’t be writing a blog if there wasn’t someone out there reading on the otherside of my screen.

I may be an idiot but I can be an idiot privately.

So I’m asking you what you want from this blog.

It may surprise you to know this, but I have the rest of the year locked in. As in, I’ve written enough essays already to get me through to 2022 and beyond. Like I said, no shortage of words or opinions here!

But what would you like to read or see me write about?

So far, I’ve written about:

• God of War and fatherhood

• The joy of being facebookless

• How the Classics as a genre across media exemplify escapism

• The public reaction to dying celebrities

• Three games that shaped much of how I see the world

• How fans remix their favorite songs to make something beautiful

• Final Fantasy IV

• The outline for a book someone should write

I can tell you a bit of what I have planned. Mostly more of the same, but also more focused looks at specific authors, an essay about how negative reviews are necessary and good, reflections on fatherhood, an examination of the politics that create the Culture War, more thoughts about musicians and artists and the future of the internet.

I also have some rather enormous plans for a few specific pieces of media, which may stretch out into two or three or five posts.

Maybe I should make a table of contents for easy navigation.

But is there something you’d like to see more of?

Want me to write more about politics and culture? Less about it?

More about music?

More focus on books or games? Both!? NEITHER!?

Want me to send things out more than twice a week? Maybe just once per week?

In addition, I’m interested in other people writing here as well. As in, I want to publish your essays.

I think my own writing here should give you a sense of what kind of essays I’m after. Also, not for thing, you would be paid for these essays.

This is actually something I’m quite keen on doing, so expect a post about this soon.

I’m also considering interviews. Possibly an intermittent feature for when there’s someone I really want to talk to who’s willing to talk to me. I like the idea, right now, of interviewing people who make things I don’t like. Trying to understand what led them in the direction they went.

While this is my blog and I will keep writing whatever strikes my fancy, I’d also like to give you all more of what you want. Like, if there’s a specific topic I haven’t touched on before in my long years of writing online that you’d like to see, let me know. I’m always up for an interesting challenge! Though, depending on the topic, it may take me some time to research.

Oh, too: I’d very much appreciate you all spreading the word about my little blog here. The more people following along and reading, the more I’ll commit myself to this little project.
