Man, I need to keep reading this manga. I dug the first trade quite a bit.

It's pretty good! I recommend just reading it on a tablet using this site: https://readberserk.com/

I don't have the money to buy 50 books to read one story, haha

Thanks! I'll do that.

This is a very odd anime, didn't it take inspiration from a Rutger Hauer movie? I recall reading up about that. Sorry for the ignorance on that topic, doubtless you know more than I on this one.

I have no idea! I'm more or less new to the story (watched the 1997 anime 25 years ago), and I'm just writing about it as I go.

Haven't looked into inspirations or any kind of background, but I imagine the manga is inspired as much by Howard and Moorcock as it is by black metal and action movies.

Really awesome that you're diving into this! The Black Swordsman Arc gets a bad rap for some reason and people usually recommend new readers to start with Golden Age. In my opinion, I think the themes and emotions conveyed by Guts' story work better when you start with Black Swordsman and slowly learn why Guts is the way he is. It may be a tough pill to swallow for some readers but it is nonetheless the way of Berserk, since nothing in that story is easy.

Thanks! Yeah, it's a bonkers start but I'm excited to see where it goes
