While we're making recs, I'd say if you want the Arya story from a different perspective, read The First Binding by R.R. Virdi. It has been compared to NOTW, but honestly I think it does a better job with that sort of tale (and I have more confidence that the series will be finished since book 2 is already with the publisher and the author was relatively prolific as an indie before signing with Tor).
One of my buddies who's a huge GRRM fan mentioned that there's a fan theory that Young Griff has a Blackfyre connection. 'twould be interesting, since he didn't even show up on TV.
Yeah, I remember this theory from way back. I think there's good reason to believe this, since the first time you hear about the Blackfyres is during a somewhat random scene when Brienne of Tarth is looking for Sansa.
Like, why drop all this backstory right there? Possibly because it's important for understanding Young Griff.
dang dude! what an incredible list of recommendations!
Also yeah I feel ya on an editor maybe chopping a bit of the book down. I feel like a lot of books are well written but just bloated for an extra 200 pages. Or maybe I'm a slow reader! Either way good stuff. Cool to check out the series kind of removed from the hype.
I think the fantasy genre is especially prone to bloat because fans are weirdly interested in stuff that sort of doesn't matter at all. They primarily just want to hangout in these imaginary worlds, so they don't mind that the books keep getting longer.

Dojo Cat PLEASE
I do think this is the best story idea I've ever had.
