I have last minutely decided to do nanowrimo in this year of 2024 and I’ve decided to do it in public because that’s the kind of thing I think is fun. I was inspired to do it because of this post by
:So I’ve opened up this section in the newsletter without subscribers. If you’d like to subscribe to this section, you can adjust your settings here: radicaledward.substack.com/account. If you don’t subscribe specifically to that section, you won’t receive emails for it. So don’t worry about me cluttering up your inbox. Unfortunately, these also won’t show up on my homepage if you do go to the website. You can, however, access it by clicking on the section in the header under Nanowrimo.
I’ll be writing the novel live so you can see my progress in real time each day.
I know there are rules about nanowrimo and so on but I don’t much care about that. I’m going to write as much or as little as I want each day with the intention of completing a novel by the end of the month. This means I may skip or miss days too. Such is life. Even so, shouldn’t be too much trouble to finish by the end of the month.
I have two novel ideas that have been germinating for a while so I’m just going to jump into one of them without any planning.
Idea One: The years Odysseus spent with Calypso on her island.
Idea Two: Loosely based on J Robert Oppenheimer’s life but set in a fantasy world.
I think I’m going to go with Idea One, so if you’re a fan of Greek mythology or very old stories, it should be a good time.
Along with the writing, I’ll be posting commentary on the process as I go. Not every day, but I will be discussing my work as I go along, which may be of interest to other writers or aspiring writers or simply people who like to learn about process.
And with that, we begin. You should see the first chapter of the novel this afternoon, I think.
