Not really. I mean, I sure wouldn’t mind one, but who has the time to just hangout for a whole month with nothing to do?
That’s my longterm dream, but I’m quite far from the permanent vacation I so long for.
I just mean that, for the month of November, I will likely only make a few posts rather than the biweekly schedule you’ve come to expect from me. I could go on and on about explanations and why I’m deciding to take some time off writing essay every week, but the simple answer is that I want to.
Emrys the Fool will continue coming weekly and the bimonthly interviews will continue (assuming I get timely answers to the questions I send out) and I’ll be releasing at least two substantial posts, but don’t expect much more from me for November.
What will I be doing during November?
Finish my Harry Potter books of essays. Since I decided to expand things for the paperback release and write an essay for each of the movies as well, I wasn’t able to get this ready as quickly as hoped. But it will be finished soon enough!
Writing Emrys the Fool - my goal is to finish the “first season” which should bring up to about the 100,000 word mark. Right now, I’m sitting around 70,000 words and the published amount is sitting around 66,000 words, so I’m slightly ahead, but I’ve always been writing this right alongside the publication schedule. It’s made for a fun project but now it’s time to clear up my schedule a bit.
Writing a fantasy trilogy for my nephews - this is my first attempt at writing for what’s now called the Middle-Grade genre, which I guess is just an age below YA fiction. This trilogy is for a Christian audience, which may surprise some of my readers, but I’m having a lot of fun with the idea. I was originally going to call it Eamon the Unbeliever, but my wife thought that would probably send the wrong impression. I have no plans to actually publish these books. I’m just hoping my nephews like them. And hoping to get at least the first one finished for Christmas.
I suppose the above should be considered enough for a month, yeah? But I have a few other things I’d like to get done that are, technically, not writing related.
I’ll be back in December with the usual schedule.
In the meantime, check out my other substack projects:
Dadpod Gamescast - the bimonthly podcast on gaming while a parent that I cohost. Check us out on Apple or Spotify or wherever you listen to podcasts.
In the Public Domain - a funny little project where I’ve been posting obscure work from the Public Domain. The month of October has been all horror related and I’ve been publishing a chapter every day. We’re currently in the middle of Henry James’ The Figure in the Carpet. Come November, we’re diving into Varney the Vampyre. The publication schedule will shift to biweekly (Mondays and Fridays) and we’ll stick with Varney for about a year.
Flatline Magazine - a magazine for original cyberpubk fiction launching in 2024. Our kickstarter will kick off early in January to fund a year’s worth of original fiction. We’re looking to pay semi-pro rates, but are hoping to get enough funding to pay pro-rates. If you’re interested in longer short stories and a thriving literary scene, sign up for updates, submission guidelines, and, eventually, original fiction between 3,000 and 10,000 words.
And, of course, buy my books!
My novels:
Glossolalia - A Le Guinian fantasy novel about an anarchic community dealing with a disaster
Sing, Behemoth, Sing - Deadwood meets Neon Genesis Evangelion
Howl - Vampire Hunter D meets The Book of the New Sun in this lofi cyberpunk/solarpunk monster hunting adventure

Don't forget to celebrate my birthday in November, too. ;)
Oh, I missed this one previously. Looking forward to the Potter book, whenever it's ready.
