Just a quick update: my dad is still alive. He seems to at least be taking his medication now, which is an improvement.
I’m a Finalist for the 2022 Baen Fantasy Adventure Award. Will find out in September if I won (ha!). This story was written in 2016 and ended up becoming a 1,500 page novel. If anyone wants to read it, I will actually send it to you. You don’t even have to ask nicely.
Had a short story come out at Tree and Stone Magazine (PDF warning). Mine is the first story in the issue. I like it.
Can’t remember if I announced this already, but I had a story come out earlier this summer that is sort of me doing my best version of Bolano doing his best version of Borges.
Got an acceptance for a different story last night. Have an essay about an obscure 1985 anime that I watched a bunch of times while my son was in the hospital earlier this year. Will link to it when it’s out. Have my first professional story sale coming out in this anthology from Neon Hemlock. Have my second professional sale coming out this winter from Mysterion Magazine.
I realized that after eight years of not having a book come out, I’m possibly having five books come out before the end of the year. The first is coming next month. I’m way behind on promoting it, but you’ll hear more about it soon. Maybe even next week.
Maybe even this week?
Expect things to get back to normal here.
It’s been a hectic and difficult month but, somehow, there are more subscribers now than there were before. For that, I’m thankful.
One of my favorite bands from when I was in college performed at KEXP so I’ve at least got that going for me.
